This post to be elaborated on after I’ve eaten: where are all the aspie girls? Being diagnosed with nonverbal learning disorder instead.
Edit 9/15: I got so excited I told my therapist instead and forgot to update here. Am working on a post.

What about PDD-NOS?
That’s what I’m diagnosed with, for the simple reason that Asperger syndrome wasn’t an option when I was being evaluated.
But it does occur to me that PDD-NOS might still be catching some of the Aspie girls who aren’t really obvious “little professors,” or who might be more interested in other people than you expect with Asperger’s.

Also,
Does this mean speaking and writing feel much the same to you?
They don’t to me — writing is so much easier, I often find I’m not really able to talk well about something unless I have written about it.

No, writing is much easier for me, but it was more than I used all of my creative energy in my explanation to her, and then failed to update.
I agree that PDD-NOS catches Aspie girls, but I don’t think a distinction is warranted. We are all autistic, in varying flavours, and each person is autistic in a different way. My distinction was that NVLD is not considered an autism spectrum disorder at all, but a learning disability. This is very strongly different than giving an autistic child a label within the ASD accepted spectrum that may not be the closest fit.

Oh, okay. That makes sense.
